1.0 Welcome

This readme contains important information that was not available when the Unicenter NSM Wireless Network Management Option documentation was published.

2.0 Operating System Support

The following sections describe the operating system requirements for each component of Unicenter NSM Wireless Network Management Option.


2.1 Client

The Unicenter NSM Wireless Network Management Option client components require:

  • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Workstation with Service Pack 5 or Service Pack 6a (see "Special Note" below)

  • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server with Service Pack 5 or Service Pack 6a

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 1, Service Pack 2, or Service Pack 3

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 1, Service Pack 2, or Service Pack 3

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server with Service Pack 1, Service Pack 2, or Service Pack 3

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional (32-bit version) with Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 1a


    2.2 Manager

    The Unicenter NSM Wireless Network Management Option manager components are only available on the Windows platform, and are the same as those of Unicenter NSM. Requirements include:

  • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server with Service Pack 5 or Service Pack 6a (see "Special Note" below)

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 1, Service Pack 2, or Service Pack 3

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 1, Service Pack 2, or Service Pack 3

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server with Service Pack 1, Service Pack 2, or Service Pack 3

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional (32-bit version) with Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 1a


    2.3 Agent

    The Agent is only available on the Windows platform. Other than the base operating system, no other Unicenter NSM components are required. Requirements include:

  • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Workstation with Service Pack 5 or Service Pack 6a (see "Special Note" below)

  • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server with Service Pack 5 or Service Pack 6a

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 1, Service Pack 2, or Service Pack 3

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 1, Service Pack 2, or Service Pack 3

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server with Service Pack 1, Service Pack 2, or Service Pack 3

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional (32-bit version) with Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 1a


    2.4 Special Note

    Unicenter NSM managers are not supported on these Microsoft "client" platforms. Only the following Unicenter NSM client components are supported:

  • Unicenter Explorer

  • Unicenter NSM Remote Administrative Client "Classic"

  • Unicenter NSM Enterprise Management Event and Workload agents

  • Unicenter NSM Agent Common Services


    3.0 System Requirements

    The following sections describe the minimum system requirements for the components of Unicenter NSM Wireless Network Management Option.


    3.1 Manager

    Windows hardware requirements plus the following minimum hardware is recommended:

  • CPU: PIII-800

  • RAM: 512MB

  • Hard Drive: 6 GB

  • Video: 32 MB DirectX- True Color TNT2 (for 3D)

  • Monitor: 17" @1024x768 or 21" @1600x1600


    3.2 Agent

  • CPU: PII-300

  • RAM: 128 MB

  • Hard Drive: 30 MB


    3.3 Pocket PC

    Pocket PC 2002


    4.0 Installation Considerations

    Before installing any component of Unicenter NSM Wireless Network Management Option, review the following installation considerations.


    4.1 Pre-installation

    Client

    The following applications are required before installing the client component:

  • Java Runtime Environment 1.3.x

  • Unicenter NSM 3.0 genlevel 0211

    The Unicenter NSM installation must include the following components:

  • Agent Common Services

    Manager

    The following applications are required before installing the manager component:

  • Java Runtime Environment 1.3.1 (for the access point GUI)

  • Unicenter NSM 3.0 genlevel 0211

    The Unicenter NSM installation must include the following components:

  • Base Manager

  • Event Management

  • Agent Manager

  • Agent Common Services

    The T115416 patch must be applied to the Unicenter NSM Agent Manager (DSM) before installing Unicenter NSM Wireless Network Management Option. To obtain the patch, contact Technical Support at https://support.ca.com.

    Agent

    No additional requirements

    Pocket PC

    Pre-installation requirements include Unicenter NSM 3.0 genlevel 0211 with the following components installed:

  • Base Manager

  • Event Management

  • Agent Manager


    4.2 Installation

    For details about installation issues identified prior to the current release, see the "Known Issues" section below.


    5.0 General Considerations


    5.1 Mobility

    Mobility Management is currently only supported on the following devices:

  • CISCO Access Points

  • Symbol Access Points

  • Intel 2011b Access Points


    5.2 802.11 Management

    Certain Access Points do not support the 802.11 MIB. Please verify with your Access Point manufacturer for information on what standards your access point supports.


    6.0 Documentation Changes

    None.


    7.0 Known Issues

    The following issues were identified prior to the current release:

    Issue Resolution
    When changing agent configuration in the repository, the manager requires a restart. This issue will be addressed in a future release.
