Contents

Plex Development Platforms

The Plex development environment is supported on the following platforms:

  7.0 6.1
Windows Server 2012 X
Windows 8 X 2
Windows Server 2008 R2 X X
Windows 7 X 2 X1
Windows Server 2008 X 2 X 2
Windows Vista SP1 X 2 X 2
Windows XP SP3 X 2 X 2

1 Tested with 32-bit editions of Windows

2 Tested with 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows
For notes on CA Plex r6.1 compatibility with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 see Knowledge Base Article TEC495228

Note: The Server Core version of Windows is not supported for development or deployment of Plex applications.

Windows Client (C++) Deployment Platforms

32-bit C++ client (WinC) applications generated by Plex can be deployed to the following client platforms:

  7.0 6.1
Windows 8 X
Windows 7 X X
Windows Vista SP1 X X
Windows XP SP3 X X

Windows C++ Server Deployment Platforms

Note: The Windows C++ Server is provided for the maintenance of existing CA Plex C++ Server applications. For development of new applications for the Windows Server platform, CA recommends the C# or Java generators.

C++ Server applications generated by the Plex Windows C++Generator can be deployed to:

  7.0 6.1
Windows Server 2012 X
Windows Server 2008 R2 X X
Windows Server 2008 X1 X1
Windows Server 2003 X1 X1
Windows Server 2003 R2 X1 X1

1 Tested on 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. Plex Windows C++ applications are 32-bit applications that execute under WOW64 environment on 64-bit Windows. For full 64-bit execution use the C# or Java generators.

Microsoft Visual C++ Versions

Older versions of Visual Studio may be obtained from Microsoft via an MSDN subscription or by purchasing the current version and requesting a downgrade. Please verify terms and conditions with Microsoft. Older versions may also be available from third-party resellers.

Visual Studio Express edition is NOT compatible with Plex C++ builds, because it does not include the MFC libraries.

Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 is available as a separate download from Microsoft and must be installed after Visual Studio 2005. In addition, on Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7, the "Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 Update for Windows Vista" should be installed.

All internal testing of CA Plex WinC and WinNTC applications are carried out using the English language install of Visual Studio 2005.

  7.0 6.1
Visual Studio 2008 and 2010 (not supported with Plex C++)
Visual Studio 2005 SP1
Standard, Professional or Architect edition
X X

Microsoft .NET C# Client and Server Generators

Visual Studio is NOT required for C# development; however, Visual Studio 2008 or 2010 may be useful for debugging and other development activities in which case the Express edition is the minimum requirement for this purpose.

If you are generating and deploying WPF clients or WCF services then the .NET Framework is the minimum requirement.

  7.0 6.1
Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0, 32-bit and 64-bit X
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5, 32-bit and 64-bit   X
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, 32-bit and 64-bit   X
