| Establishing SLAs by Eric Hanson, TK, CA|NetQoS Previous sessions described how to determine what traffic is consuming resources and how the applications that generate traffic normally perform. In this session, you will learn what is required, recognizing that normal performance doesn't necessarily meet the business' needs. Tracking SLAs enables companies to manage performance with facts and begins to map cost to functionality. | 79.9 MB | 48 minutes |
| NetVoyant - Custom Device Polling and Reporting by Alex Street, TK, CA|NetQoS Quite frequently new devices or technologies are deployed into production networks, and it's only after the statistics are needed that the requirements are shared. In this session, you will learn how to leverage the custom polling capabilities of CA|NetQoS NetVoyant to poll these non-standard devices and create meaningful reports on them. | 109.0 MB | 60 minutes |
| NetVoyant - Expert Alarming and Notifications by Susan Ebbert, TK, CA|NetQoS In this session, you will learn how to get the most of your NetVoyant system by learning how to configure alarms and notifications. Get the details on how to send email or trap alerts, create an alarm if your devices are deviating from normal behavior, and ensure your team is able to identify and resolve issues before your customers even become aware that there is a problem. | 59.7 MB | 35 minutes |
| NetVoyant - Incorporating SNMP Polling into Performance Management (CBQOS, IPSLA, NBAR) by Robb Van Eman, TK, CA|NetQoS There is little argument that IT adoption of best practices from Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) is increasing. The most recent edition of ITIL, Version 3, expands on its service management heritage but adds much needed guidance on strategy, operations and continuous improvement that were glossed over in Version 2. In this session, you will learn how the network performance management discipline aligns with and underpins the key processes and activities in ITIL, as well as how NetQoS products and services support them. In addition, the relevant differences between ITIL Version 2 and Version 3 will be summarized in a network management context. | 67.4 MB | 35 minutes |

| Webinar: NetVoyant 6.1 Getting Started - Adding Devices - January 2010 Are you interested in managing devices in NetVoyant more quickly and effectively while closely tracking license compliance? This 75 minute session will discuss the tips and best practices for the NetVoyant discovery process, including how to import devices lists to quickly build discovery scopes, using auto enable rules to allow NetVoyant to automatically enable the components you want to poll, and auditing what has been discovered to ensure that licenses are being used effectively and efficiently. | 53.5 MB | 75 minutes |
| Webinar: NetVoyant: Events, Alarms, and Notifications - July 2009 | 46.1 MB | 53 minutes |
| Webinar: Cisco IP SLA Best Practices: Monitoring and Configuration - June 2009 Cisco IP SLA is a powerful latency monitoring technology that requires no additional devices in your infrastructure. You will learn how to take advantage of IP SLA to view network latency and congestion. The session will provide an overview of all supported IP SLA tests with best practice and deployment scenarios for each one. It will also cover how to configure, deploy and monitor the tests using NetQoS NetVoyant. | 61.2 MB | 70 minutes |

| Auto Enable Rules in NetVoyant Auto-enable rules let you systematically identify the poll instances that will be automatically enabled when discovered by NetVoyant. These rules minimize administrative overhead so that you do not need to manually enable every poll instance of interest. This document explains the auto-enable rules, identifies the more common device properties on which to base auto-enable rules, and provides steps and examples for successful implementation of these rules. | 238 KB (PDF) | - |
| BGP Peer Status Remote Monitoring MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) is becoming a more popular means of transport for remote campuses in enterprise-class organizations. Because most carriers use BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) as the routing protocol, the monitoring of BGP Peer Status is critical for an organization to ensure performance of both the network and applications. This document explains how to understand and configure the monitoring of BGP for Cisco devices by CA NetQoS NetVoyant. However, the underlying mechanism to monitor BGP status using SNMP can be applied to other SNMP monitoring tools, such as CA Spectrum or CA eHealth. | 557 KB (PDF) | - |
| Creating Email Notifications in NetVoyant 6.0 NetVoyant is the SNMP polling solution for the NetQoS Performance Center. In version 6.0 and above, a new feature called Alarm Profiles was added. This new feature simplifies the configuration of Alarms, with the added benefits of Alarm Profiles being applied to groups and the ability to configure escalating alarms. This best practice guide is intended to show users how they can create one Alarm Profile so that an alarm is raised in the alarm log and email notifications are sent when an interface goes down and when it comes back up. | 442 KB (PDF) | - |

| Get Application Aware with Your Cisco Network Devices An important part of shifting a network management strategy from up/down availability measurements to one based on performance is moving beyond a limited, "device-aware" approach to a focus on application delivery - an "application-aware" approach. This entails understanding the content flowing over the links and prioritizing traffic based on the value and importance of that content. Some of the most advanced application-aware technologies already exist within Cisco routers and switches and don't require the purchase of additional modules, cards, probes, or proprietary analytical engines. When deployed along with a Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) polling product, application-aware technologies such as Cisco IP Service Level Agreement (IP SLA), Cisco Class-Based Quality of Service (CBQoS), and Cisco Network-Based Application Recognition (NBAR) put the data you need right at your fingertips. This white paper introduces a set of application-aware capabilities, explains how they can be leveraged within Cisco routers and switches, and outlines their critical role in an overall application delivery management strategy. | 274 KB (PDF) | - |
| CBQoS Reporting Explained NetQoS NetVoyant provides QoS reporting by leveraging information defined in the Class-Based-QoS MIB. This paper describes four types of policies applied to QoS that perform QoS functions:

| Cisco IP SLA with NetVoyant This document covers the Cisco IP SLA tests that are supported by NetVoyant. It provides a background on how IP SLA tests are performed as well as recommendations on each individual test's ideal deployment. This document also includes information on how to report on IP SLA tests once they are configured. This document holds value for Network Engineers looking for specific deployment and configuration information as well as Managers looking to discover what value IP SLA tests can bring them. | 652 KB (PDF) | - |
| Advanced Notifications in NetVoyant This document describes best practices regarding the creation of Event Notifications for sustained events detected by NetQoS NetVoyant. Advanced alarming based on NetVoyant groups will also be discussed, as well as by-device alarming. This last type of alarming treats all components of a particular type on the same device as one component, applying a total threshold to the entire set of components. Typical usage scenarios involving NetVoyant notifications may include the following:
