Subject:  General Availability Announcement for Symantec Endpoint Protection 16 for Windows on Symantec Endpoint Security (SES)

As part of our ongoing commitment to customer success, we regularly release updated versions of our products. Today, we are pleased to announce that Symantec Endpoint Protection 16 for Windows on SES is now available. This update is available to all Symantec customers who have a Symantec Endpoint Security Enterprise, SES Complete, or Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) license. 

New features for SEP 16 include: 

  • Endpoint Security Agent (ESA) - Modular and Extensible Architecture 
  • This release is the first on the new Endpoint Security Agent (ESA), a consolidated agent architecture that is building the foundation for future improvements while maintaining backward compatibility with existing systems.
  • The ESA provides Shared Services across products and a new agent UI that is simplified, consistent across products and scalable to support future products on the agent.
    Shared services include:
    • Live Update allows granular updates to features and products. This enables us to deliver updates to targeted components with speed and precision.
    • Ability to configure a local LiveUpdate Server. 
    • Tamper Protection.
    • Restart scheduling with end user message customization. 
  • SEP 16 on ESA Benefits
  • Ease of deployment, based on the modular ESA architecture
        • Features can now be changed without reinstallation (e.g. Firewall can be added or removed on the fly).
        • Languages can be configured at the endpoint (no need to reinstall).
        • Fewer reboots required than SEP 14.x. Modern architecture leverages the concept of opportunistic restarts.
  • Improved Performance
        • On-demand scans are ~50% faster - both first time scans as well as subsequent scans.
        • ~25% reduction in the installed memory footprint with all features and products turned on.
  • Simplified User Experience
      • Moved advanced settings from the SEP product UI to SES. End users now only have on/off toggles in their agent UI and administrators can configure advanced settings from SES.
      • Improved and consistent dialogs for errors and warnings
      • Consistent look-and-feel of logs across all features.
      • Auto-Enabler for all features (SEP 14.x clients support this only for Anti-Malware and Firewall).
      • More powerful troubleshooting tools.
