Today, we are pleased to announce that Symantec Endpoint Protection 16 for Linux managed via ICDm and the Enterprise Console is now available -- the first release of Linux support on the Endpoint Security Agent (ESA). This update is available to all Symantec customers who have a Symantec Endpoint Security (SES) Enterprise, SES Complete, or Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) license. 

Highlights of this release include: 

• Benefits of the Endpoint Security Agent (ESA) for Endpoint Security are now available to Linux users

• Ease of deployment, based on the modular ESA architecture

• Features can now be changed without reinstallation (e.g. Firewall can be added or removed on the fly).
• Languages can be configured at the endpoint (no need to reinstall).
• Fewer reboots required than SEP 14.x. Modern architecture leverages the concept of opportunistic restarts.

• Simplified User Experience

• Moved advanced settings from the SEP product UI to SES. End users now only have on/off toggles in their agent UI and administrators can configure advanced settings from SES.
• Improved and consistent dialogs for errors and warnings.
• Consistent look-and-feel of logs across all features.
• Auto-Enabler for all features (SEP 14.x clients support this only for Anti-Malware and Firewall).
• More powerful troubleshooting tools.
• First SEP Linux agent without a kernel module dependency

SEP 16 Linux runs entirely in the user space with no need for kernel modules. This means:

• No dependency on specific kernel versions -  the same agent works across different distributions and kernel versions
• Reboot less upgrades
• Enhanced security posture - reduced attack surface by avoiding privileged kernel-level code
• Improved system stability - reduced risk of kernel-level conflicts that can cause crashes or incompatibility issues
• First SEP Linux agent that supports LiveUpdate

SEP 16 Linux is fully updatable via LiveUpdate - Symantec’s auto update mechanism. This means:

• content (signatures) and software modules can both be updated remotely
• ESA modular architecture allows precise updates only to specific components
• updates and fixes can be delivered much faster from Symantec
