Subject:  General Availability Announcement for Disk Backup and Restore Version 14.0

On behalf of Broadcom, we appreciate your business and the opportunity to provide you with high-quality, innovative software and services.  As part of our ongoing commitment to customer success, we regularly release updated versions of our products. Today, we are pleased to announce that Disk Backup and Restore Version 14.0 is now available.

New features for Disk Backup and Restore (Disk) include:

Unix File Level Support – allows you to back up, archive, restore, move, and copy files in Unix System Services using familiar Disk batch interfaces.

  • Centralize control of backup and recovery - Storage administrators can perform incremental and full backups of UNIX files to DASD or tape, using familiar DSCL language and procedures. This is aimed at making recovery and reporting easier.
  • Reduce media and CPU costs - By performing incremental backups at the UNIX file level, you may potentially reduce the cost of unnecessary media and processing time. The cost of storage space can possibly be reduced even further by using Disk to archive old, unreferenced UNIX files to offline media.
  • Quickly locate files - Disk is intended to locate files easily by grouping files and directories that have common attributes. If you already know which files you want to locate, Disk may save you processing time by finding them directly without browsing the entire file system.
  • Apply consistent policies to all data - You can apply the backup and business continuity policies that are tailored for your traditional z/OS data sets to files and directories in Unix System Services. Disk manages online data across the entire storage hierarchy, according to the type of data that is stored and how it is used. This may enhance your ability to manage data consistently, regardless of where it resides.

PDSE Version 2 support – All PDSE Versions (V1 and V2) data sets are now supported for Move and Copy. Conversions between PDS, PDSE version 1 (V1), and PDSE version 2 (V2) are allowed with some exceptions.

DBACKUP Command - intended to improve performance for encrypted and other data set types that use the DSS data mover.

CPU Time Improvements - enhancements were made which are intended to improve the efficiency of the processor cache.
